Lincoln Public Schools has joined forces with the Food Bank of
Lincoln to promote the first
annual BackPack Extra Mile Walk. Kids are the most important and
valuable asset we have
and the BackPack program provides weekly food filled backpacks to
families in need. The
BackPack Extra Mile walk is a wonderful way to get some exercise
while promoting physical
activity in a fun family environment and raising money for a worthy
program.
Why participate?
By participating in the walk, you are taking the first step towards
fighting hunger in our
community. Participants show they support the children of Lincoln and
are dedicated to
making a difference in their well being.
*Research shows that hungry children have difficulty
learning.
*Currently 644 LPS elementary students who qualify for
free/reduced lunch
*Lancaster County census figures - over 7,000 children
under the age of 18 are living in poverty.
*Backpack cost - Per Week $4.50 - Per Month -
$18 - Per Semester - $75 - Per Year $150
