Curves of North Lincoln Donate 60 tons to the Food Bank System of Lincoln Lincoln, Nebraska (Grassroots Newswire) February 18, 2010 -- Curves Northwest and Northeast Lincoln raised more than 125,000 pounds of food from efforts in their local community to benefit the Food Bank of Lincoln and area Pantries over the last eight years.

The next fundraising effort will take place from March 1 to March 31, 2010 with a goal to contribute an additional 25,000 pounds this year.

"While we work to improve the lives of the women in the North Lincoln area through Curves, we also feel it is important to reach out to others in our community," said Linda, owner of Curves of North Lincoln. "It’s apparent to us that the Food Bank System of Lincoln cares about the lives and the health of the people in our community. We are proud to be able to partner with them to help the North Lincoln area."

According to Bauer, one of Curves of North Lincoln’s goals is to foster community involvement through charitable efforts. "Curves has always been dedicated to improving someone’s life -- through weight loss or a charitable initiative. It’s exciting to be able to give both to the North Lincoln community," said Bauer. "We have a chance to help so many people at a time when the food banks are lowest. Especially during these uncertain times, this food is needed more than ever. It’s a win-win situation for everyone, and we’re very proud to participate.”

Others wishing to donate may drop off non-perishable food items at Curves Monday through Friday during business hours through the month of March. For more information, please call Curves Lincoln Northwest (477-4733) and Curves Lincoln Northeast (467-4733).

Both Curves locations are also giving back to the community by waiving its normal service fee for any new member who brings in a bag of non-perishable groceries and joins between March 8th and March 20th. This promotion will help the women of Lincoln manage their weight and their wallets by joining Curves for free, while also helping feed hungry people in the community.

Curves’ exercise program consists of thirty minutes of exercise three times a week, during which participants work all major muscle groups and receive a great cardio workout. It includes all five components of a complete exercise program: warm-up, strength training, cardio, cool down, and stretching.
