SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)

SNAP The food stamp program, now offically known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), provides about 46 million Americans in about 22 million low-income homes with debit cards to buy food each month. Participants include adults with families who work in low wage jobs, unemployed workers and people on fixed incomes, such as Social Security. About three-fourths of SNAP recipients live in households with children; more than one-quarter live in households with seniors or people with disabilities. It is the largest federal nutritional assistance program. The SNAP Outreach Program, at the Food Bank of Lincoln, provides food stamp information and application assistance, as another means of providing meals to the community's most vulnerable individuals and families.
