What is Empty Bowls To Go?

For 18 years, hundreds of Food Bank supporters have gathered each spring to enjoy soup from Lincoln’s finest restaurants at our annual Empty Bowls Luncheon. While the pandemic continues to limit our ability to gather in 2021, we are inspired to find ways to sustain the events and traditions that gather Food Bank friends, supporters and partners in the fight against hunger. Empty Bowls To Go! is a drive-thru event that will feature handcrafted bowls by Down Under Pottery, the familiar faces of Food Bank staff, delicious soup from amazing Lincoln restaurants and an opportunity to support our mission to alleviate hunger. Every empty bowl represents the bowls we’ve been able to fill for neighbors in Southeast Nebraska facing food insecurity, as well as the ones we have yet to fill.

How much are tickets?

Tickets are $15 each. The ticket price includes the cost of your bowl, sales tax and a $10 donation to the Food Bank of Lincoln. Tickets are available for purchase online only through May 21. Event attendees must present ticket(s) at the drive-thru event. One bowl per ticket.

Will there still be soup?

Yes!

We are excited for the return of soup at this year’s drive-thru event. Each ticket holder will receive a pre-packaged to-go cup of soup from one of Lincoln’s finest restaurants.

How will bowls be distributed?

We will take every precaution to keep all involved safe and healthy. As such, event guests will not be allowed to peruse or handle multiple bowls as has been allowed in the past. We will ask all guests to remain in their vehicles as Food Bank staff distribute bowls and soup to all ticket holders. We kindly ask you to wear a mask when you interact with Food Bank staff.

Community is definitely not canceled.

While we won’t be able to sit together and enjoy a bowl of soup (or several!) as we traditionally do at Empty Bowls, we hope that you will still join us as a community of Food Bank supporters on social media.

We would LOVE to see pictures of you at home enjoying soup in your bowl(s) from the Empty Bowl’s To Go! event—and show us your entire Empty Bowls collection while you’re at it!

Don’t forget to tag us on social media (@FoodBankofLincoln on Facebook and Instagram and @FoodBankLincoln on Twitter). Plus, we encourage you to use the hashtags #EmptyBowlsLNK and #EmptyBowlsFullCommunity

I’m unable to attend the drive-thru event on June 1, but I’d still like to support the Food Bank of Lincoln. How can I help?

Donations to the Food Bank of Lincoln can be made anytime using our online donation page here.
