More information about Empty Bowls To Go!

What is Empty Bowls To Go?

Due to the pandemic, many of the Food Bank’s annual events have been canceled or postponed. We have missed those opportunities to gather with community partners and friends who support our mission to alleviate hunger in Southeast Nebraska. Empty Bowls To Go! is a drive-thru event and will feature handcrafted bowls by Down Under Pottery, the familiar faces of Food Bank staff and an opportunity to support our mission as we continue on into the fall and winter seasons. Attendees are invited to join us at the Food Bank of Lincoln on Wed., Sept. 30th, between 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.  Please follow posted traffic signs in the drive-thru event space outside of the Food Bank.

How much are tickets?

Tickets are $15 each.  The ticket price includes the cost of your bowl, sales tax and a $10 donation to the Food Bank of Lincoln.  Tickets are available for purchase online only.  Event attendees must present ticket(s) at drive-thru bowl event.  One bowl per ticket.

Will there still be soup?

Not this time.

We will not have soup or beverages as part of Empty Bowls To Go event this year. This change is reflected in the reduced ticket price. However, your bowl will still hold something special inside!

Every empty bowl represents the bowls we’ve been able to fill for neighbors in Southeast Nebraska facing food insecurity as well as the and the ones we have yet to fill.

How will bowls be distributed?

We look forward to seeing you at this drive-thru style event. We will take every precaution to keep all involved safe and healthy. As such, event guests will not be allowed to peruse, or handle multiple bowls as has been allowed in the past. We will ask all guests to remain in their vehicles as Food Bank staff distribute bowls to all ticket holders. We kindly also ask you to wear a mask when you interact with Food Bank staff.

Community is definitely not canceled.

While we won’t be able to sit together and enjoy a bowl of soup (or several!) as we traditionally do at Empty Bowls, we hope that you will still join us as a community of Food Bank supporters on social media.

We would LOVE to see pictures of you at home enjoying soup in your bowl(s) from the Empty Bowl’s To-go event—and show us your entire Empty Bowls collection while you’re at it!

Don’t forget to tag us on social media (@FoodBankofLincoln on Facebook and Instagram and @FoodBankLincoln on Twitter). Plus, we encourage you to use the hashtags #EmptyBowlsLNK and #EmptyBowlsFullCommunity

And finally, be sure to let us know what kind of soup, or other yummy things, you’re enjoying in your handcrafted bowls provided by Down Under Pottery.
